Essen Cathedral Treasury

The Essen Cathedral Treasury comprises one of the most important collections of ecclesiastical works of art in Germany. The treasures are kept in the cathedral treasury next to the cathedral church. Numerous liturgical devices and objects are still used in church services today. Outstanding works of art from the early Middle Ages are presented in the cathedral treasury: The Golden Madonna in the cathedral is the oldest fully sculptural figure of Mary in the world and the most important work of art in the Ruhr region. The seven-armed candelabrum in the cathedral is also the oldest preserved of its kind.
